The Koala
At this moment Chiangmai zoo have 7 koalas 
3 male and 4 female koalas
4 koalas came from Australia on 22 November 2006
Koala babies born on 22 August 2009

Common name  :  Koala
Scientific name : Phascolarctos cinereus
Height :  60-80 cms.
Weight :  Female between 6-11 kgs.
Male from 8-14 kgs.
Smaller in northem distribution range.
Distribution Range : Coastal areas of Queenland, New South Wales, Victoria, and parts of South Australia
Sexual Maturity :  3-4 years of age
Pregnancy : 25-35 days
Time in marsupium : 6-8 months
Independency of the young : After 1 year
Number of offspring : 1 (twins are very rare)
Behavior : Solitary outside of mating season; inhabits trees.
Communication : Coarse call, similar to sawing wood.
Food : Eucalyptus leaves**
Life expectancy (In wild) : Female 15+ years, Male 12+ years

The 3 Subspecies
Australia is a continent located south of the equator that gets hotter the further north you go.  Therefore, the koala's fur is shorter, thinner and lighter in the north and longer, denser, and darker in the south.  Also, koala's in the north are much smaller than in the South (6kgs compared to 12kgs.)

Height :  approzimately 60 m.
About 400 species of Eucalyptus 
Poisonous
Eucalyptus is poisonous to most animals.
The Koala, however, has a special disgestive system thai neutralizes the poison of some species of eucalyptus.  Some species are even poisonnoas to the koala.
Nutrition Information
Containing very little fiber and energy, a koala must eat 200-500g. of leaves on a daily basis to meet energy requirements.
